Parents of Year 11s: is your child preparing for mock exams, but feeling overwhelmed by revision? As a qualified secondary maths teacher, these are the habits I most commonly see in Year 11 students that cost them marks! If you’re a parent looking for GCSE Maths support, these are worth watching out for. I love these! Just goes to show how much a student can accomplish with the right support in a short amount of time. My students always impress me with how much they can be stretched and challenged. It’s amazing what 40 minutes can do. We started with a simple algebraic fraction to warm up. Once I knew my Year 11 student felt confident, I added small steps to challenge them further. By the end of the lesson, they could simplify complex algebraic fractions independently 🥳 First lessons are all about helping students settle in and feel comfortable. Expanding THREE brackets 🤯 a lot of my students find it easier to expand the last two brackets first! Then multiply the result by the first bracket. Substitution made ✨simple ✨ I see so many Year 9 and Year 10 students struggle with rearranging equations like this one, and it’s exactly where confidence in Maths can drop fast. I’ve broken down how to rearrange this equation step-by-step. Pause the video to try this first yourself!
